"Look I don't read Maxim."
Ethan Hawke in Before Sunrise - A 105 mintues-long intelligent conversation between two smart young people - a Texan bloke and a Parisian girl. After watching this movie I was wondering: Why can't my dates be half as interesting as this?

sigh! not only was he interesting but also very cute (one more thing anyesha will agree to) .. but I think the performance as well as looks went down in the sequel.

Ayush

I kind of liked him in the sequel more than in the first one. He looked more 'intelligent' in the sequel.

Certainly older, more mature. . . more beaten down by life.

But I wonder about the importance of a truly heart to heart discussion. Apart from the foreplay aspect to giving each others words a lot of importance, (thereby suggesting that I will respect/love you for who you are), is there anything really important really said? Perhaps it is just the sponetaneousness of the people. . .and the fact that they are just talking their hearts out (even though there isn't really much there except a fundamental, touching , humanity) that make this movie so easy to relate to and love.

A quote comes to mind: "I am really deep on the surface, and shallow underneath."

The movie definitley involves a huge amount of intellectual masturbation. But then thats the kind if thing one does at that age. All in all, I liked it because it was reminiscent of someone dear, I've had many such conversations with. In perspective, I don't remember what we used to talk about excepting that I cherish and value our time spent together. The person in question actually bought me this movie for my last birthday. The success of the movie lies in it being something we can relate to, not because it lays claims to be profound.
